DUSHANBE, July 18, 2016, Asia-Plus – Over the first six months of this year, Tojikstandart (agency for standardization, metrology, certification and trade inspection) has confiscated 664 tons of Iranian food products that do not meet Tajikistan’s standards, Tojikstandart head Ibodullo Qurboniyon announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 15.

“Those food products also did not have an appropriate marking – description of a product in the Tajik language,” Qurboniyon said.

According to him, Iranian companies Safar, Robin Tajikistan (phonetically spelled), Nava 2013, Jabrail and Nour-e Isteqlal suspended delivery of food products to Tajikistan.

“We have discussed this issue with Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan and provided the examination results that show that the confiscated products did not meet Tajikistan’s standards,” said Qurboniyon.  “We do not ban delivery of Iranian products to Tajikistan; we have just confiscated the products that do not meet Tajikistan’s standards”

Tojikstandart head further added that over the same six-month period, they have confiscated 590 tons of Turkish products, 300 tons Indian food products, 269 tons of Chinese products, 186 tons of Russian food products, 10 tons of Vietnamese products, 12 tons of Kazakh products and 69 tons of products delivered to the country from Georgia.

“Besides, we have confiscated over the report period 105 tons of poor food products manufactured in Tajikistan itself,” Qurboniyon noted.
