Coal mining enterprises of Tajikistan are committed to the end of this year to produce about 1.7 million tons of coal, establishing thus a new record of the extraction of this type of solid fuel, reported the press service of the Ministry of industry and new technologies of Tajikistan.

For the 28th of August this year the volume of coal production has amounted to 770 thousand tons that is 245 thousand tons more than the same period last year.

18 enterprises in the Republic are mining coal. The most important among them are: “Sh. Fon-Yagnob”, LLC "TALCO-Resource", “Ziddi”, joint-stock company of open type "Angisht" that in general are committed to produce 1.5 million tons of coal before the end of the year. The remaining 12 companies are planning to produce about 200 thousand tons of this fuel.

According to the industry Ministry, currently there are more than 200 companies that use coal as fuel.

Note that over the past two years Tajikistan produces a record amount of coal – 870 thousand tons in 2014 and more than 1 million tons in 2015. Before that the country extracted only 17 thousand tons of this fuel. Before gaining independence of Tajikistan only 309 thousand tons of coal was produced in the Republic.

Since the 1st of March 2013 Tajikistan introduced a ban on coal exports from the country. The government intends therefore to reduce the dependence on hydrocarbon imports, increasing coal production and the efficiency of its use.

In the spring 2012 was adopted the law "On coal", designed to bring new investment into the industry.
