The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law regulating recruitment of foreign workers.

Under these amendments, the term of licenses granted to the foreign worker recruitment agencies has been reduced from five to three years.

The foreign workers quota in Tajikistan is determined by the government and the foreign workers quota for this year has reportedly been determined at 8,000 people.  As of September 1, only 4,500 foreign workers were recruited.

Under Tajikistan’s legislation, foreign nationals working in Tajikistan should not exceed 20 percent of employees.

Besides, foreigners working with projects being implemented in Tajikistan on the basis of government-to-government agreements should not exceed 30 percent of personnel.
