Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, yesterday on the sidelines of the 13th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit. 

The meeting between President Rahmon and President Erdogan took place at Serena Hotel, where the ECO Summit was held. 

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon and Erdogan discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey.  

The sides reportedly pointed to the necessity of expanding economic cooperation and seeking new ways to improve a two-way trade between the two countries.  

Energy, transportation infrastructure, industry, agriculture, and tourism were outlined as areas which could drive the trade between Tajikistan and Turkey.  Rahmon invited Turkish investments in international transportation and tourism.  

Rahmon and Erdogan reportedly reached an agreement on holding the first meeting of the Tajikistan-Turkey Cooperation Council, exchanging students and teachers, and increasing the quota for Tajik students.  

They stressed that Tajikistan and Turkey shared common stance on issues related to combating international terrorism and extremism and supporting establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan, the website said.
