President Emomali Rahmon on May 12 attended a ceremony of introducing Voddi Danghara-3 canal into operation, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

A total cost of the Danghara Steppe Irrigation Project is reportedly more than 33 million U.S. dollars.  A totaled includes a US$15.8 million loan provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), a US$13.8 million loan provided by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and Tajikistan’s contribution equivalent to US$4.1 million.

On May 13, Rahmon met in Danghara with regional administrators of Khatlon province.  The president urged the Khatlon authorities to expand development of Danghara district.

Rahmon noted that Khatlon province last year received 1.3 billion somoni in foreign direct investments, which is 38 percent of the country’s share.

In 2016 and in the first quarter of 2017, 5.5 billion somoni from all sources of budgetary financing were spent on socioeconomic development of Khatlon province, the president noted.  

Over the report period, 29 national investment projects in the amount of 3.6 billion somoni have reportedly been implemented in Khatlon province.   

On May 12-13, President Emomali Rahmon was on a working visit to Danghara district.  The main purpose of the visit was for the president to get acquainted with socioeconomic situation of his hometown, communicate with local population and inaugurate a number of social and educational facilities.
