Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received visiting Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The two sides reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Hungary. 

President Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attached significance to its cooperation with Hungary in both bilateral and multilateral formats.  

Rahmon and Szijjarto expressed satisfaction with the level of political cooperation between Tajikistan and Hungary and both sides showed interest in further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the frameworks of the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and international economic and financial institutions.  

They reportedly outlined sectors like hydropower, information technologies, investment, education, health care, minerals, light industry, agriculture, pharmaceutics and tourism as areas that could drive the two-way trade between Tajikistan and Hungary.

The sides also pointed to the necessity of establishing of direct contacts between entrepreneurs and setting up the joint commission for trade and economic cooperation. 

Rahmon and Szijjarto also discussed a number of international and regional being of mutual interest, including the current situation in Afghanistan and the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.  

Szijjarto’s discussions with Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament) reportedly focused on issues of expanding cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.  

Peter Szijjarto and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov expressed satisfaction with the level of mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Hungary in the fields of politics, economics and culture.  The sides reportedly expressed readiness to promote further expansion of the political dialogue and seek new ways and mechanisms to expand cooperation between Tajikistan and Hungary in the fields being of mutual interest.

Recall, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto signed a bilateral cooperation agreement of their respective ministries in Budapest, Hungary, on November 28, 2016.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Hungary were established on July 2, 1992.
