Ruznomai Binokoron (Builders’ Newspaper), which is an official mouthpiece of the Committee on Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan, marks its 10th anniversary this year.
The newspaper was founded ten years ago and its first edition was published on the occasion of Builders’ Day.
This year, Builders’ Day is marked on August 13.
Builders' Day is a professional holiday celebrated in many former Soviet republics on the second Sunday in August. It was first celebrated in the Soviet Union on August 8, 1956.
Builders' Day in the USSR was established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union in 1955. It was proposed by the leader of the USSR Nikita Khrushchev, who was impressed with the construction of the Zhiguli Hydroelectric Power Plant and felt the need to draw public attention to the achievements of Soviet builders and their contributions to the country's development.
Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, some former republics of the USSR moved or completely abolished Builders' Day. However, a number of republics continued to celebrate it on the second Sunday in August. They include Armenia, Belarus,, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine.
Builders' Day is the professional holiday of all people involved in the construction process, although engineers and architects have their separate professional holidays as well. It is marked with official ceremonies, concerts, exhibitions and other festive events. Commissioning of the newly constructed buildings can be dated for the holiday.
