Head of the Shuroi Ulamo (Council of Ulama — an Islamic council that issues fatwas (religious rulings) and religious guidance to Islamic religious organizations) Saidmukarram Abduqodirzoda has met in Istanbul with Istanbul Mufti Hasan Kamil Yilmaz, according to the Shuroi Ulamo’s official website.

The two sides have reportedly discussed various directions of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey, including cooperation between the countries in the field of religion.

Abduqodirzoda and Yilmaz vowed to promote expansion of cooperation on the issues of freedom of religion in Tajikistan and discussed measures to prevent involvement of citizens in the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) and Fethullahcı Teror Orgutu (Fethullahist Terror Organization — FETO) terrorist organizations, the website noted.

Saidmukarram Abduqodirzoda reportedly condemned the 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt and pointed to the necessity of expansion of the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey in the field of security.

Istanbul Mufti Hasan Kamil Yilmaz, for his part, noted that Turkish official clergy condemns any type of coup attempts, including the failed coup attempt that took place in Tajikistan in September 2015, the website said.

At the end of the meeting, Istanbul mufti reportedly expressed readiness of the Turkish side to cooperate with the Shuroi Ulamo of Tajikistan in preserving the Hanafi madhab.
