Twenty-six skirmishes between Tajik border guards and armed drug smugglers have been reported along the Tajik-Afghan border over the first nine months of this year, according to the press center of the Main Border Directorate at the State Committee for Nationals Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan.

Thirteen drug smugglers were reportedly killed and one trespasser was wounded.  

In January-September this year, Tajik border guards in cooperation with other power-wielding agencies seized more than 1,300 kilograms of drugs along the Tajik-Afghan border.

A totaled included some 10 kilograms of heroin, 393 kilograms of raw opium, 710 kilograms of hashish, 198 kilograms of cannabis, and five kilograms of ecstasy.  

Besides, Tajik border guards have seized twenty-two firearms, 600 bullets and six hand grenades over the same nine-month period.  

Over the report period Tajik border guards have reportedly detained more than 89 internationally wanted persons, the press center says.
