The draft law on Tajikistan’s national budget for 2018 is being discussed at a session of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament today, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

According to him, the Majlisi Namoyandagon will also discuss the draft national foreign-borrowing program of Tajikistan designed for 2018-2020.  

Meanwhile, a source in the government says the country’s gross-domestic product (GDP) is projected to rise 13.6 percent or 8.038 billion somoni in 2018.  

Tajikistan’s GDP is expected to stand at 66.856 billion somoni in 2018.  

The country’s GDP for this year is projected to stand at 58.910 billion somoni, 9.4 percent more than in 2016.  In 2016, the country’s GDP stood at 53.828 billion somoni.  

Tajikistan’s GDP is projected to stand at 73.401 billion in 2019 and at 82.713 billion in 2020. 

Inflation for 2019 and 2020 is projected to stand 6.8 percent.  

Meanwhile, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on November 7 raised growth forecasts for the 37 countries in which it operates, saying that Tajikistan is expected to see GDP growth of 6.5 and 5.0 percent in 2017 and 2018 respectively. 

Tajik economic bloc ministries forecast that the somoni exchange rate against the U.S. dollar will slide to 9:1 in 2018, to 9.4:1 in 2019 and to 10:1 in 2020.
