Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, locally known as Radio Ozodi, reports that the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan is expected to open its representative office in Turkey.

Citing Umarjon Emomali, a spokesman for Interior Ministry, Radio Ozodi reported on December 16 that the Turkish authorities have proposed Tajikistan to open a special representative office of its interior ministry in Turkey and Tajikistan has accepted that proposal.

This issue was discussed at a meeting of a high-ranking delegation of the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan with Turkish counterparts that took place in Dushanbe last week.

The Interior Ministry spokesman noted that the main purpose of opening of the Tajik Interior Ministry’s representative office in Turkey was to prevent threat emanating terrorist groups.

“In recent years, nationals of our country have traveled to Iraq and Syria through Turkey to join the so-called Islamic State terror group.  Opening of the representative office in Turkey will help prevent such situations,” Umarjon Emomali told Radio Ozodi in an interview.

Now the Government of Tajikistan is reportedly preparing the documents necessary to open the interior ministry’s representative office in Turkey.  The exact date of opening the representative office is not yet known.

Tajik Interior Ministry currently has its representative office only in the Russian Federation.
