Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has congratulated his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on his reelection, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Emomali Rahmon sent a message of congratulations to Vladimir Putin on March 19.

Rahmon, in particular, noted in his message that reelection of Vladimir Putin as President of the Russian Federation “is a striking illustration of Russian society’s support for your political policy at providing sustainable development and guaranteed security of friendly Russia as well as increasing its prestige on international arena.”

Tajik leader stressed that “Putin is known in Tajikistan as supporter of development of Russia-Tajikistan relationship and strategic partnership.”

Vladimir Putin cruised to victory in Sunday’s presidential elections in a result that was never in question. His fourth term as president will extend until 2024, making him the first Kremlin leader to serve two decades in power since Josef Stalin.

A state-run exit poll shows that Putin won Sunday's presidential election with a projected 76.6% of the vote.  Exit polls are not final, and official results are gradually being released.
