By ruling handed down by the Sughd regional court Khayrullo Mirsaidov has been released.

Mirsaidov’s defense lawyer, Bakhtiyor Nasrulloyev, says imprisonment to which Mirsaidov was sentenced under the provisions of Articles 245 (embezzlement of state funds) and 340 (document forgery) has been replaced with a fine of 80,000 somoni and imprisonment to which Mirsaidov was sentenced under the provisions of Article 346 (false denunciation) has been replaced with community service.

Recall, the Khujand city court sentenced the stand-up comedian and journalist Khayrullo Mirsaidov to 12 years in prison on July 11.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of embezzlement of state funds, document forgery and false denunciation.  The court also imposed a 123,913 somoni fine.  The family of Khayrullo Mirsaidov has paid the fine imposed upon him by the Khujand city court.  The money was reportedly transferred to the state on July 12, one day after the Khujand city court sentenced Khayrullo Mirsaidov to 12 years in prison.

Mirsaidov’s defense lawyers have appealed against the Khujand city court’s ruling and the Sughd regional court considered Mirsaidov's appeal of his sentence on August 22.
