Despite unsettled debts, Tajikistan intends to borrow another some 777 million U.S. dollars within the coming three years under the national foreign-borrowing program: 261.8 million USD in 2019; 255.9 million USD in 2020; and 256.6 million USD in 2021.

Tajikistan’s national foreign-borrowing program today includes 75 ongoing loan projects and 67 loan agreements being at a design stage.

The loans will be attracted for completion of projects being implemented in the country.

The Government reportedly expects the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to participate in financing 17 projects for a total cost of 177 million USD.

The EBRD considers the possibility of providing nearly 75 million USD for implementation of 24 projects.

The World Bank (WB) plans to provide more than 135 million USD and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to provide more than 70 million USD.

Besides, Saudi Fund for Development, Kuwaiti Fund for Development, Export-Import Bank of China (China Eximbank), the European Investment Bank and other donors are also expected to finance the state investment projects.

Meanwhile, as of October 1, 2018, Tajikistan’s external debt amounted to 2.873.8 billion U.S. dollars.

China remains Tajikistan’s largest creditor.  Tajikistan now reportedly owes more than 1.2 billion to the Export-Import Bank of China (China Eximbank).

Tajikistan now also owes 318 million U.S. dollars to the World Bank, 278 million U.S. dollars to the Asian Development Bank and 112 million U.S. dollars to the Islamic Development Bank.
