A special platoon of the Mobile Forces of the Ministry of Defense of (MoD) of Tajikistan is participating in a military competition, dubbed Sayan March-2019, which is being held in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region from February 17-21, an official source at a MoD told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the competition is being held in the framework of the International Army Games-2019 and special mountain warfare units are participating in this competition.

The press center of the Russian Central Military District says military skiers from Russia, Tajikistan and Angola are participating in the Sayan March-2019 competition.  Representatives of Kazakhstan are acting as observers.

A special mountain warfare platoon was formed in Tajikistan in February 2015.  Servicemen of this platoon receive intense specialized training for fighting in mountainous conditions.     

The Mobile Forces are the paratroopers of the armed forces of Tajikistan. They are similar to the Russian Airborne Troops, whom they often train with.  The Mobile Forces act as a special forces in Tajikistan, subservient to the Defense Ministry.  

The International Army Games-2019 are planned to be held in Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, India, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia.  The Games’ program will be expanded to 31 competitions from the current 28 contests.

The International Army Games-2018 brought together 189 teams from 32 countries, including Greece, which is a NATO member state. The International Army Games-2018 was held on July 28 – August 1. Algeria, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sudan and the Philippines participated in the International Army Games for the first time. 

The International Army Games is a Russian military sports event organized by the Ministry of Defense of Russia (MoD). The annual International Army Games, which have taken place since August 2015, involve close to 30 countries battling it out in dozens of competitions over two weeks to prove which nation has the most military might.  The games have been referred to as the War Olympics.
