The practice of cutting off electricity to some areas of Dushanbe is going on.  Today, nine streets and one neighborhood in the Tajik capital will be left without electricity for seven hours.

“Today, electricity supply will be cut off to Omar Khayyam, Zainab Bibi, Amirshoyev, Zahmatobod, Roudaki, Guliston, Ozod, Abdullobekov and Mayakovski streets from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in connection with routine maintenance work,” said an official source at the Dushanbe electricity supply network.  “Besides, electricity supply will be cut off to the Ispechak neighborhood.”

It is to be noted that various streets in the Tajik capital have been left without electricity practically every day since the beginning of the year.

Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s state-run power utility company) has explained these power outages by maintenance work on Dushanbe’s power substations.

Meanwhile, some representatives of Barqi Tojik have attributed the problem to low water levels at the reservoir powering the Nurek hydropower plant.

Recall, many regions in the country have seen rationing of electricity between midnight and 6 a.m.
