Member of Kazakhstan’s upper chamber (Senate) of parliament, Murat Baktiyaruly, has proposed to introduce death penalty for woman and child rapists, according to Kazinform.

He has noted that the current legislation stipulates an inadequate punishment for such criminal acts.

“The coercion, the rape of women, especially the rape of children, child abduction and abduction on the whole – all of these criminal acts are serious crimes.  Unfortunately, our legislation stipulates an inadequate punishment for such crimes.  Last year, we, a group of senators, raised the issue of introducing death penalty for serious crimes.  Unfortunately, our proposal was not supported.  As member of parliament, I consider that we should impose death penalty for serious crimes committed against children and women,” the senator said.
