On Wednesday November 6, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov had a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin, according to the Kyrgyz MFA press center.

Kyrgyz foreign minister reportedly expressed concern about a deadly attack on a Tajik frontier post that had left at least two Tajik security servicemen and 15 militants dead.

A statement released by the Kyrgyz MFA, in particular, says that Kyrgyzstan condemns such acts and expresses strong support for joint efforts taken by the countries of the region to provide regional security.

Kyrgyz foreign minister extended condolences to families and relatives of Tajik servicemen killed in that attack.

The attack has raised alarms across the Central Asian region.

Recall, Russian officials have said for several years that the Islamic State (IS) terror group presence in Afghanistan is growing and could threaten Central Asia.  They have estimated there are thousands of IS militants in northern Afghanistan, warning of challenges and threats to security in the region.

The Tajik government has also repeatedly warned that national security is under intense threat from militant groups outside the country.  Afghanistan has been cited as the most imminent source of danger.
