Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will attend the Collective Security treaty Organization (CSTO) summit and an informal Central Asian summit this week

Chaired by Kyrgyz leader, the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council will take place in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on November 28.

The presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan as well as Armenia’s prime minister will attend the meeting to discuss issues related to the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility.

An official source within the Tajik government says a draft decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council on a list of measures to ensure reduction of tension along Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan has also been tabled to the session’s agenda.

While in Bishkek, Tajik leader will hold a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the CSTO member nations.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

On November 29, Emomali Rahmon will take part in the second consultative meeting of heads of the Central Asian nations that will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

They are expected to discuss issues related to trade and economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation as well as development of the regional transport infrastructure.

The holding of the second regional summit was initiated by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the first regional summit that took place in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on March 15 last year.

Presidents of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan as well as Turkmen Parliament Speaker participated in the first summit.

Central Asian experts consider that geographic factors could turn Uzbekistan into a vehicle for regional cooperation because it borders all four other Central Asian states — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan — as well as Afghanistan.
