A resident of the Spitamen district in the northern Sughd province has got a lengthy jail term for fighting alongside militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group in Syria and Iraq. 

A court in the Spitamen district has sentenced a 31-year-old Shuhratjon Satimov to 15 years in prison.  He will serve hi term in a high-security penal colony.

According to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office, Satimov was recruited by ISIS in 2013 while working as labor migrant in Russia.  He reportedly joined ISIS militants in 2015 and was fighting alongside terrorists against government forces in Iraq and Syria.

At that time, criminal proceedings were instituted against Satimov and he was put on an international wanted list.

After ISIS defeat in Syria and Iraq, Shuhratjon Satimov returned home, where he was detained.
