An earthquake that occurred in the Tojikobod district (Rasht Valley) in afternoon of July 4 reportedly partially damaged dozens of residential buildings in five villages.

The epicenter of the quake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, was in the Tojikobod district in the area some 201 kilometers northeast of Dushanbe, according to the Institute of Seismology of Tajikistan.

The tremor could be felt in other regions as well.  Thus a 3.0 magnitude tremor could be felt in Dushanbe.

“The quake has partially damaged 10-12 residential buildings in the village of Shrinchashma,  It has also partially damaged a number of residential buildings in the villages of Sai Nai, Sebiston, Ghanishob and Safedob,’ Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

No injured was reported, according her.

A government commission is currently working in the quake site to assess the actual damage caused by the quake to the villages.  

Meanwhile the US Geology Survey says a moderate quake measuring 5.4 on Richter scale hit the Tojikobod district of Tajikistan on July 4 at 09:53 UTC.  The quake reportedly occurred at the depth of 10 kilometers.
