Tajik President Emomali Rahmon replaced Transport Minister Khudoyor Khudoyorzoda in a decree on August 31.  Khudoyorzoda was retired.

By another decree Azim Ibrohim, who had previously served as Deputy Prime Minister, was appointed as the new Minister of Transport.

Recall, the previous Transport Minister Khudoyor Khudoyorzoda was hospitalized on August 11 after what the Tajik authorities say was an attempted suicide.

Tajikistan's Prosecutor-General's Office said in a statement released by the Prosecutor-General’s Office on the same day said the 62-year-old Khudoyorzoda used a knife to try to kill himself after he'd had an argument with members of his family during the early morning hours of August 11.

A statement from the Prosecutor-General's Office did not specify details about the family argument it said Khudoyorzoda had been involved in.

Authorities said an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Sources close to law enforcement say relatives of Khudoyorzoda has saved him by calling for an ambulance and providing him with first aid until emergency medical workers arrived.

Khudoyorzoda has headed Tajikistan's Transport Ministry since 2017.

Azim Ibrohim was born in the Mir Said Ali Hamadoni (formerly Moskva district) of the Khatlon province on March 1, 1962.  He graduated from the Tashkent Technical University in 1984.  He has scientific degree of Candidate of Sciences in Geology.

Azim Ibrohim had served as Deputy Prime Minister since November 23, 2013.  Prior to this he served as Head of the Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan from 2005 to November 23, 2013. In 2004-2005, Azim Ibrohim was Head of Dushanbe’s Sino District.  In 2002-2004, he was Deputy Minister of Industry.  From 1995 to 2002, Azim Ibrohim served as Frist Deputy Head of the Committee on Precious Metals.
