Two residents of the village of Guskef were killed by an avalanche on February 3, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

They were hunting in the mountains when the avalanche occurred and buried them, Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Rescuers of the Emergencies Committee and local residents participated in a search operation and their bodies were found on February 4.

The Emergencies Committee warns that warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further avalanches in the country.  People are advised not to travel to the mountain areas unnecessarily.
