A school built in Mergancha settlement of Urgut district in Samarkand region of Uzbekistan under financial support of Tajikistan is expected to be commissioned today.

An official opening ceremony of the school will be attended by Tajik Minister of Education and Science Muhammadyusuf Imomzoda and Uzbek Minister of Public Education Sherzod Shermatov, a source within the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

A new school to accommodate 640 pupils in one shift has been built on the basis of an agreement between the heads of the countries during a state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Dushanbe in March 2018.

In addition to the school in Samarkand, Tajikistan will build a kindergarten in Rishtan district of Uzbekistan Ferghana region.

Uzbekistan, for its part, has built a modern school in Spitamen district in the Tajik northern province of Sughd and a hospital in Qubodiyon district in the Tajik southwest province of Khatlon.
