Over the first six months of this year, revenues of private telecom operators in Tajikistan have amounted to 1.387 billion somonis (equivalent to about 123 million U.S. dollars), which is 173 million somonis (about 15 million U.S. dollars) more than in the same period last year, according to the country’s communications service agency.

Meanwhile, the revenues of the divisions of the national telecom operator Tojiktelecom, State unitary Enterprise (SUE) Pochtai Tojik (Tajik Post) as well as other divisions the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan have risen a total of 20.4 percent over the first six months of this year, reaching 93.1 million somonis (As of January 1, 2021 their total revenues reportedly amounted to 77.3 million somonis). 

As a whole, total revenues of the country’s communications sector rose 14.6 percent (189 million somonis) in six months to June 30, 2021, reaching 1.480 billion somonis.  

The current share of private telecom operators in Tajikistan’s communications sector is 94 percent.  

As of July 1 of this year, the number of Internet users in Tajikistan amounted to 3.354.4 million subscribers, and the number of mobile communication users – 6.149.1 million, of which about 5.144.2 million are active subscribers.

The growth in income of mobile operators is most likely associated with the rise in prices for mobile services in the second quarter of this year, as well as with the coronavirus pandemic, which is why many people began to work remotely and, accordingly, use more mobile communications and mobile Internet.
