President Emomali Rahmon today began a working visit to the southern province of Khatlon, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

At Bokhtar International Airport, Rahmon was reportedly met by regional administrators and residents of Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province.  

While in Khatlon, Emomali Rahmon will inaugurate a number of economic and social facilities, will review some programs and projects the progress and will hold a meeting with regional administrators. 

Khatlon province is the most populous of the four first level administrative regions.  It is situated in the southwest of the country, between the Hisor Range in the north and the Panj River in the south and borders on Afghanistan in the southeast and on Uzbekistan in the west.

Khatlon province consists of 21 districts and 4 district-level cities. The total population of Khatlon in 2020 was 3,348,300, up from 2,677,251 in the 2010 population census. The population in Khatlon is mainly engaged in agriculture.
