On Sunday December 26, Prince Rahim met with His Excellency Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal, at the Presidential Palace, according to the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).  

At the meeting, Prince Rahim reportedly conveyed to the President and the people of Portugal Season’s Greetings and best wishes for the New Year.

AKDN says the President and Prince Rahim acknowledged the strong relationship between the Ismaili Imamat and Portugal and spoke about the presence and activities of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Portugal, Portuguese-speaking countries, and globally. 

They also took the opportunity to discuss other matters of mutual interest, such as those related to international affairs and regions where the Ismaili Imamat and AKDN have a strong presence, including Central and South Asia, East Africa, and the Middle East.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa reportedly thanked Prince Rahim for the courtesy visit, and requested that he convey to His Highness the Aga Khan his warmest greetings and best wishes.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan is the second of four children of His Highness the Aga Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam (Spiritual Leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims and the founder and chairman of AKDN.  Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Prince Rahim Aga Khan has been actively involved for many years in the governance of AKDN.

Recall, Prince Rahim Aga Khan on October 14 attended a cultural celebration to mark the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, held at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, in the presence of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.  Prince Rahim conveyed His Highness the Aga Khan's warmest greetings and congratulations, and affirmed the Aga Khan Development Network’s commitment to Tajikistan’s peace and prosperity.

AKDN’s investments in Tajikistan span the economic, humanitarian, social, and cultural sectors, helping to improve the quality of life of all Tajik peoples.
