An avalanche hit the section of the road from Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), to GBAO’s Ishkashim district from the 51st to the 53rd km, near the village of Dizhor in Qozide jamoat yesterday,  the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan reported on January 3.

Fortunately, no injured was reported, according to the source.

Heavy snowfalls and an increase in the temperature background in the mountain areas have reportedly increased the risk of further avalanches and rockfalls, and therefore, the Emergencies Committee advises people throughout much of the country not to travel unnecessarily to mountain areas.

The Emergencies Committee calls on residents and guests of Tajikistan to be careful and in case of emergencies call the following phone numbers: 112; and 93 880 28 19.
