Kyrgyzstan intends to send 150 troops to Kazakhstan as a part of a peacekeeping mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The head of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security (GKNB) Kamchybek Tashiyev has stated this at a session of the Jogorku Kenesh (the unicameral parliament of Kyrgyzstan), 24.kg news agency reported on January 7.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan decided to participate in a joint peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan as part of cooperation within the CSTO.

As it had been reported earlier, a group of citizens yesterday rallied outside the country’s parliament building in Bishkek in protest against sending Kyrgyz peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has called on the population national broadcasters to consider the government’s decision to send troops to Kazakhstan sympathetically.

Meanwhile, a source within the Defense Ministry of Tajikistan says Tajikistan intends to send 200 peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.
