On January Tuesday 18, Tajikistan Ambassador to Turkey Ashrafjon Gulov met in Ankara with Turkey Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the meeting took place at the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey.

The two reportedly discussed the state and prospects of expansion of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in field of defense.

Gulov and Akar also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, the Tajik MFA information department added.  

The Turkish Armed Forces consist of the General Staff, the Land Forces, the Naval Forces and the Air Forces.

The Turkish Armed Forces is the second largest standing military force in NATO, after the U.S. Armed Forces, with an estimated strength in 2021 of 895,000 military and paramilitary personnel.

The Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Turkey established diplomatic relations on January 29, 1992.

Tajik–Turkish relations are friendly and cooperative and underlined with a legal basis of more than 65 treaties and protocols which have been signed between two countries since 1991.

The Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) in Tajikistan plays an important role in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.  Dozens of projects were implemented in Tajikistan by this Agency.
