A young women from Farkhor district in Khatlon province has got a jail term of 17 years for killing her mother-in-law.

The Khatlon regional court has sentenced Umeda Sharipova, a resident of Muhojirobod village in Farkhor district, to 17 years in prison on January 22, 2022.

The sentence followed her conviction on charges of murder (Article 104 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).  Sharipova will serve her term in an ordinary-regime penal colony 

According to information posted on the official website, of the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the incident took place on November 9 last year. 

The woman reportedly inflicted eight stab wounds on her mother-in-law Faizigul Olimova following family quarrel.  The elderly woman died on the spot from wounds sustained.   

The Prosecutor-General’s Office says the incident took place in front of a six-year-old grandson of Faizigul Olimova.
