On Tuesday May 3, Tajik President held phone talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Tajik president’s official website says that at the beginning of the conversation, the leaders of the two countries exchanged warm congratulations on the occasion of the bright holiday of Fitr.

Emomali Rahmon reportedly wished the brotherly people of friendly Turkey peace, well-being, abundance, and ever-increasing prosperity.

During the talks, topical issues of further expansion of the Tajik-Turkish multifaceted cooperation in various areas of mutual interests were discussed, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The parties reportedly expressed mutual satisfaction with the current level and content of cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, in the sphere of security and in other areas of interaction.

The presidents also exchanged views on a number international and regional issues being of mutual interest.

At the end of the conversation, Rahmon, noting the importance of continuing a constant dialogue at the highest and high levels for the effective filling of the entire range of bilateral relations with new practical content, renewed his invitation to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at his convenience.

Agreements were reportedly reached on coordinating upon specific dates for the said visit through diplomatic channels.

Recall, Tajikistan and Turkey have the Military Framework Agreement.  The document was inked by Tajik Minister of Defense Sherali Mirzo and Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar in Ankara on April 21.   

Tajik–Turkish relations are friendly and cooperative and underlined with a legal basis of more than 65 treaties and protocols which have been signed between two countries since 1991.

The Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) in Tajikistan plays an important role in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.  Dozens of projects were implemented in Tajikistan by this Agency.
