Tajik president meets with UAE minister and infrastructure in Astana to discuss cooperation

On the sidelines of the 6th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met in Astana Kazakhstan with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Suhail Al Mazrouei.  

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates.  

Tajik leader, in particular, noted that the United Arab Emirates occupies an important place in the foreign policy of Tajikistan.  “We advocate and promote strengthening and expanding multifaceted cooperation with your country,” he said.

In the course the talks, the parties reportedly discussed the development of trade and economic ties and investments, expressed satisfaction with the level of political relations between the two fraternal and friendly countries, as well as cooperation within international organizations.

They reviewed the expansion of cooperation in promising areas of energy, the launch of joint ventures in the mining industry of Tajikistan, the processing of cotton into manufactured goods, the use of large hydropower resources, investment projects beneficial to the parties, and cooperation between financial and banking structures.

In the agricultural sector, it was recognized as necessary to expand cooperation organizing the export of agricultural products from Tajikistan to the Emirates, including fresh fruits, dried fruits, vegetables, honey, as well as livestock and meat products.

Tourism was al outlined as one of one of areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.  

It was considered expedient to increase the number of air routes and connect the capitals by opening direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Dushanbe.

The parties reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.
