To-date, there are only three rumor-based versions of what happened at the firing range in Belgorod oblast and there is no any official statement.

According to one of those versions, those shooting reservists at the training ground in Belgorod oblast were natives of Tajikistan.  They reportedly opened fire following quarrel on religious grounds.

According to another version, the terrorists were natives of Uzbekistan.  Citing his source, Ukrainian blogger Anatoly Shariy writes on his telegram-channel that they came to the military registration and enlistment office and said: “We want to defend our homeland, help.”   They were reportedly given weapons and sent to the military unit.   Four days they were there and then during the fire training session, they started shooting at everyone, Shariy writes.

According to the third version, the group of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, entitled Atesh, on October 16 claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack at the training ground in the Belgorod oblast.

The Atesh group announced that it takes full responsibility for the terrorist attack, claiming that their “agents” were allegedly behind the murder of Russian soldiers at the training ground in Belgorod.  However, Atesh did not provide any evidence.

So far, the nationality of the terrorists who carried out the attack has not been officially disclosed.

Citing the Ministry Defense of the Russian Federation, Russian media reports said on Saturday that at least 11 people were killed and 15 others wounded at a military training ground in Russia’s Belgorod oblast on October 15 after two attackers opened fire on a group of volunteers who wished to fight in Ukraine.  The two assailants were reportedly shot dead after the attack.

"During a firearms training session with individuals who voluntarily expressed a desire to participate in the special military operation, the terrorists opened fire with small arms on the personnel of the unit," RIA Novosti cited a defense ministry’s statement as saying.

"As a result of the shooting, 11 people were fatally wounded. Another 15 people with wounds of varying severity were taken to a medical facility," the statement said.

The terrorists were citizens of one of the CIS member nations, according to the statement.
