On Monday, June 19, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin, who is also Co-Chairman of the Joint Tajik-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for trade and Economic Cooperation.

The Tajik president’s official website says Emomali Rahmon emphasized the importance of the coordinated and effective work of this Commission and wished Marat Khusnullin success in his future activities as a co-chair of this important mechanism for promoting relations between the parties.

In the course of the talks, the parties reportedly discussed the current state and prospects of further expansion of the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia.  

Tajik leader, in particular, noted that the issues of strengthening multifaceted cooperation with the Russian Federation occupy a special place in the foreign policy of Tajikistan and the Tajik side pays constant attention to the entire range of ties between the two countries.

In this context, the need to continue the efforts of the parties aimed at the full implementation of the previously reached agreements on expanding the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian aspects of cooperation between the two countries was emphasized.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed a wide range of issues of Tajik-Russian relations in various areas of the economy and trade.  Sectors like light and food industries, agriculture, energy and tourism were outlined as areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

Rahmon and Khusnullin also discussed cooperation between the regions of the two countries.  

The implementation of investment projects in the real sector of the Tajik economy was regarded as a promising direction in bilateral relations.

Due attention was reportedly paid to the issues of migration interaction, in particular, strengthening the legal and social protection of labor migrants, as well as preserving and expanding the common spiritual and cultural space of the peoples of the two countries.

The parties also discussed a number of other issues being of mutual interest.
