Traffic police officers who will fall under a 30-percent staff cut will be transferred to other structures of the Interior Ministry, the Interior Ministry Ramazon Rahimzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on February 15.

“400 traffic police officer who will fall under the 30-percent staff cut will be provided with work in other divisions of the ministry,” Rahimzoda said.

He further noted that layoffs haven't started yet.   “They will start only after a corresponding decision of the government,” the minister added.

Recall, President Emomali Rahmon last month signed the decree authorizing to reduce the staff of the Interior Ministry Traffic Police Directorate by 30 percent.

According to the decree posted on the president’s official website, this decision was made to improve work efficiency of the Traffic Police Directorate.  The document states that the Government and the Interior Ministry are to bring their acts into compliance with the decree.

Speaking at the meeting of the country’s Security Council in Dushanbe, Emomali Rahmon expressed concern about the detection of serious shortcomings and irresponsible behavior of the heads of law enforcement agencies and supervisory authorities.

The president reportedly paid particular attention to certification — internal staff inspections at the Traffic Interior Ministry Police Directorate and ordered the staff of this Directorate be reduced by 30 percent.
