An accident at the construction site of the Roghun hydropower plant has claimed the lives of three workers and injured another, according to the Service for the State Supervision of Safe Work in Industry and Mining under the Government of Tajikistan (Service).

The incident reportedly occurred on November 12.

An official source within the Service says all the deceased were employees of the Khokroud Company, which is working on the Roghun project.

The workers were aged 39, 40, and 51.  Information on the cause of the accident has not been disclosed at this time.

A task force was immediately formed to investigate the incident.  Currently, authorities are examining all circumstances related to the accident.  Security and law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to uncover all details of the tragedy.  "We received an official report on the incident, after which a task force was organized to study the situation.  The specifics of the incident will be announced upon completion of the investigation," the source stated.

In 2020, 15 accidents were recorded at the Roghun hydropower plant construction site, resulting in 3 fatalities and 15 injuries.  In 2019, 33 accidents were recorded at all construction sites accross the country, which reprotedly led to 20 deaths and 25 injuries.

The construction of the Roghun hydropower plant is the largest project not only in Tajikistan but also in the entire region.
