President Emomali Rahmon addressed a joint meeting of both chambers of parliament on December 28.

Heads of all provinces, cities and districts as well as ministries and agencies have been invited to attend the meeting.

All Tajik national television and radio channels broadcast the president’s annual address.  Students of higher educational institutions as well as senior students of high schools are gathered in their institutions’ auditoriums to watch Rahmon’s annual address.

In the televised version of his address, President Rahmon this year touched on a number of social and economic issues, but the issue of migration remained abroad.

In his address to Parliament, Emomali Rahmon, in particular, emphasized the significant contributions of women to various areas of society.

According to the president, women make up 25% of civil servants, 73% of education system employees, 71% of healthcare workers, 47% of cultural sector employees, 37% of scientific workers, and 30% of entrepreneurs.

He specified that there are over 110,000 women entrepreneurs in the country.

“During the independence period, more than 280,000 women graduated from higher education institutions, thus obtaining higher education. Since the implementation of the presidential quota, over the past 28 years, 11,600 girls have completed higher education under this quota. Furthermore, more than 35,000 women and girls have graduated from foreign universities,” the president added.

He continued by stating that of the 214,000 students currently studying in the country's universities, 90,000 (42%) are girls.

“Additionally, women actively participate in national competitions, winning the largest number of prizes,” Rahmon emphasized.

The president noted that women's achievements are an essential factor in the sustainable development of the country.
