On January 23, President Emomali Rahmon dismissed Sherali Mirzo from the position of Minister of Defense.

Mirzo has been appointed as the Head of the Main Directorate for the Protection of State Secrets under the Government of Tajikistan.

The new Minister of Defense is Emomali Abdurahim Sobirzoda, who had previously served as the First Deputy Head of the Defense Ministry, the Tajik president’s official website says.

Bobojon Saidzoda was appointed as the First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan, replacing Emomali Sobirzoda.

Additionally, President Rahmon, through a government decree, relieved Beg Sabur of his post of Head of the Communications Service under the Gvernment of Tajikistan.  Sabur retired for age reasons and Isfandiyor Sadullo has taken his place.

Furthermore, pursuant to clauses 8 and 9 of Article 69 of the Constitution of Tajikistan, Rahmon submitted proposals to the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) to approve the dismissal of Yusuf Rahmon from the position of Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan.

Habibullo Vohidzoda has been proposed as the new Prosecutor-General.  He currently serves as the Deputy Prosecutor General and Chief Military Prosecutor of Tajikistan.

Under Article 69 of Tajikistan’s Constitution, the Majlisi Milli gives consent to the appointment and relieving of the Prosecutor-General and his deputies upon the recommendations of the President.

The President also submitted a proposal to parliament to relieve Qarakhon Chilazoda of his post of Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of Tajikistan. Chilazoda's position is proposed to be filled by Jamshid Karimzoda.

Zeboniso Abdullozoda was relieved of her post of First Deputy Chairperson of the High Economic Court and was appointed to head this court.  Her nomination for dismissal from her previous position and appointment to the new one has been submitted to parliament.

President’s decrees and government’s resolutions also resulted in the following dismissals:

  • Ahliddin Majidzoda was relieved of his post of Head of the Department of Defense and Law Enforcement at President’s Executive Office due to a transfer to another job.
  • Abdusattor Shohiyon was relieved of his post of Head of the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense due to a transfer to another job. His post has been filled by Khurshed Safarzoda.
