A session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), presided over by its head, Rustam Emomali, took place in Dushanbe on February 3.

The Majlisi Milli’s official website says the session discussed forty-four issues, including the recall of the chairman of the Supreme Court and election of the new chairman of this court as well as the giving of consent to the relieving of the prosecutor-general and appointment of the new prosecutor-general. 

Thus, Shermuhammad Shohiyon was relieved of his post of head of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan and the Majlisi Milli elected Rustam Mirzozoda as new Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan upon the recommendation of President Emomali Rahmon. 

Mirzozoda had previously served as Chairman of the High economic Court of Tajikistan since 2022. 

Yusuf Rahmon was relieved of his post of Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan and the Majlisi Milli gave consent to the appointment of Habibullo Vohidzoda as the Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan.

Vohidzoda had previously served as Deputy Prosecutor-General also Main Military Prosecutor of Tajikistan.   

Under Tajikistan’s Constitution, the powers of the Majlisi Milli include the election and recall of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President; decide questions of the repeal of inviolability of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court; and the giving of consent to the appointment and relieving of the Procurator General and his deputies.
