The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has instructed relevant ministries and agencies to quickly address the consequences of the earthquake in the Rasht region and determine the scope, methods, and resources for providing assistance to the affected population.  This was reported by the president’s press service reported on April 14.

"The work to eliminate the arising problems must be accelerated," the press service quoted Emomali Rahmon's directive.

Following the earthquake on April 13, a government commission was formed under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister, Sulaymon Ziyozoda, which has already arrived at the disaster site in the Rasht Valley.

The commission members reportedly include representatives from ministries and agencies involved in responding to emergencies, state reserves, construction, geology, land management and geodesy, as well as local authorities.

"The commission is engaged in a thorough study of the consequences of the earthquake, determining the volume and types of urgent assistance to the affected population," the president’s press service reported.

According to the latest information, as a result of the devastating earthquake on April 13, a three-year-old child was killed after being crushed by a collapsing wall.

In Rasht and Tojikobod districts, 94 residential houses were completely destroyed, 50 houses were partially damaged, and 61 houses sustained minor damage.  Additionally, 3 public schools and about 200 other various buildings were damaged.

The magnitude of the earthquake at the epicenter, which was located 160 km northeast of Dushanbe and 21 km east of the administrative center of the Rasht district, was about 6.0 on the Richter scale, while in Dushanbe, it was 3.0 on the Richter scale.
