A contingent of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan are being trained for participation in a military parade, which will take place on Red Square in Moscow on May 9, 2025.  The event is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan, one company of Tajik servicemen is already in the Russian capital.

Colonel Faridoun Mahmadalizoda, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan, says the company is participating in daily rehearsals alongside units from other countries.

According to him, Tajikistan will be represented by personnel from the airborne assault brigade of the mobile forces.

This unit is part of the Collective Operational Response Forces (CORF) and the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

Which countries send their troops to participate in the Victory Day Parade in Moscow?

The Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov announced earlier that military units from 19 friendly countries had been invited to participate in the military parade on the Red Square.  He clarified that among the invited countries are seven former Soviet republics.

Russian media reports say that in addition to Tajikistan, military contingents from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will also participate in the military parade in Moscow.  Military units from Armenia and Belarus are also expected to march on the Red Square.

In total, Moscow expects leaders from over 20 countries to attend the Victory Day Parade.  There will even be three European guests: Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, and the leader of the Republic of Srpska (an entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina) Milorad Dodik.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and other heads of state are also expected to attend.

No information on President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Moscow yet

In November of last year, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Semen Grigoryev, delivered an invitation from President Vladimir Putin for Tajikistan’s president to participate in the May 9, 2025, events on Red Square, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

Later, in December, during an informal meeting of the CIS leaders, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia expects military contingents from CIS countries, as well as their leaders, to participate in the Victory Day Parade on May 9 in Moscow.

In March of this year, following a meeting with Tajikistan’s President, Vladimir Putin announced that a Tajik military unit would take part in the May 9 parade in Moscow.  He also mentioned that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon would attend the Victory anniversary celebrations in Moscow.

Last year, Tajikistan’s leader participated in the Victory Day ceremonies in Moscow at the invitation of Putin.
