The damage from the earthquake that occurred on April 13 this year in Rasht and Tajikabad districts exceeded the total damage in two districts, amounting to 17.78 million somoni ($1.66 million), the country's Emergency Situations Committee told “Asia-Plus”.

According to the agency, in particular, the damage in Rasht district is estimated at 9.21 million somoni, and in Tajikabad at 7.77 million somoni.

As a result of the disaster, 1,331 families were affected, a total of 5,639 people.

67 residential buildings were completely destroyed in two districts, 280 were partially destroyed, and 321 more houses received minor damage. In addition, 146 outbuildings, as well as educational, healthcare facilities, power lines, highways and irrigation systems were damaged.

In Rasht district, 34 houses were destroyed, 116 were partially damaged, 134 were slightly damaged. 59 outbuildings, 9 school buildings, 6 cultural centers, 1.2 km of highways, 1.62 km of power lines, 1.7 km of irrigation and drinking networks, as well as 4 facilities of the national economy were damaged. The death of 20 heads of large and small cattle was recorded.

In Tajikabad district, 33 houses were destroyed, 164 were partially damaged, and 187 were slightly damaged. 87 farm buildings, 3 schools, 1 leisure center, 2 medical posts, 1 district hospital, 4 km of highways, 1 bridge, 2.9 km of power lines and 20.7 km of irrigation channels were also damaged. 37 cattle died.

Currently, reconstruction work is continuing in the affected areas.

Recall that a devastating earthquake in the northeast of Tajikistan occurred on April 13 at 9:24 a.m. As a result, a three-year-old child died, and several people were injured. The epicenter was located 160 km from Dushanbe, in the Rasht region. The force of the tremors reached 5-6 points there, and about 3 points were felt in Dushanbe.

President Emomali Rahmon instructed to build new houses in a safe place for homeless families as soon as possible, in compliance with all standards of earthquake-resistant construction.

 

Almost 200 emergencies since the beginning of the year

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of May 25, 2025, 195 natural accidents and emergencies were registered in Tajikistan. Among them:

– 71 cases of mudslides;

– 51 avalanche cases;

– 19 rockfalls;

– 15 earthquakes;

– 4 landslides;

– 3 cases of flooding.

As a result of six incidents, 6 Tajik citizens were killed. 52 people were rescued during the rescue operations.

During the same period of 2024, 465 natural accidents were registered on the territory of the republic, as a result of which 11 people were killed and 16 were rescued.
