Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) Rustam Emomali, who is also Mayor of Dushanbe, yesterday held meeting s with heads of both chambers of Russia’s parliament.

Majlisi Milli’s press center reports that during his meeting with Federation Council (Russia’s upper chamber of parliament) Valentina Matviyenko, Rustam Emomali reportedly underscored that the shared commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II is a significant historical milestone and a firm foundation for the dynamic development of bilateral strategic partnership.

“Tajikistan attaches great importance to expanding multifaceted cooperation with Russia.  Our relations are successfully strengthening in political, trade-economic, humanitarian, and scientific-technical spheres. Inter-parliamentary ties have become a crucial link in the entire relationship complex,” Emomali noted.

He reportedly highlighted that the upper houses of parliament have set a high standard for inter-parliamentary dialogue, including cooperation on multilateral platforms.

Valentina Matviyenko, for her part, reportedly drew attention to interregional cooperation as a key element in reinforcing integration processes between the two countries.

“More than 70 Russian regions maintain business relations with Tajikistan across a wide range of areas,” she said.

Special focus was placed on educational collaboration.  Matviyenko noted that Tajikistan is the first country to participate in the humanitarian project “Russian Teacher Abroad,” implemented under the patronage of the upper houses of parliament. Successful projects on establishing joint general education schools with instruction in Russian are also underway.

Rustam Emomali added that the Russian language is taught at all levels of the education system in Tajikistan.

Matviyenko also emphasized the importance of the cultural-educational project “Memory Train”: “Knowing history is the foundation for building the future. Youth from Commonwealth countries have the opportunity to make friends and feel pride in shared victories.”

She further spoke about the international youth expedition “Journey to the Heart of Eurasia – 2025,” conducted under the auspices of the Russian-Tajik Business Council, aimed at strengthening youth ties.

During the parliamentary negotiations, Emomali visited a photo exhibition at the Federation Council showcasing cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments and left a message in the guestbook.

Majlisi Milli’s press center reports that in the curse of talks with State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation and broadening collaboration in the economy, construction, transport, telecommunications, energy, and agriculture were discussed.

Both sides stressed the importance of attracting Russian investments, regulating migration, workforce training and cultural and youth exchanges.

The delegation from Tajikistan’s National Assembly, led by Rustam Emomali, is in Moscow at the invitation of the Speaker of the Russian Federation Council.
