As part of his working visit to the Vanj district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today inaugurated a newly constructed industrial park aimed at boosting local employment and small-scale manufacturing.

The president’s official website says the industrial park spans 788 square meters and houses six small-scale production enterprises.  Key areas of activity include pasta manufacturing, soy product packaging, peanut oil and dried fruit processing, and the production of soap and plastic doors and windows.

High-efficiency equipment and local jobs

President Rahmon reportedly toured the facilities, paying particular attention to the pasta and soy packaging workshops.  The equipment installed is reportedly sourced from leading international manufacturers and is known for its high energy efficiency.

The processing units for peanut oil and dried fruits have already employed six trained specialists, while soap and plastic production facilities are staffed by skilled workers. In total, the park is expected to provide permanent employment for 36 local residents.

Raw materials will be supplied by local dehqon (smallholder) farms, and the finished products are planned for both domestic distribution and export.

President Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the quality of the construction and instructed officials to expand production capacity and create additional jobs in the future.

New enterprise for marble and mineral processing

Also in Vanj, the president launched a new calcite, marble, and decorative stone processing plant operated by the joint-stock company Marmar Stone.  The facility has a production capacity of 40,000 tons per year and relies on locally sourced raw materials.

Calcite, in particular, has wide industrial applications, being used in the manufacture of over 90% of equipment and appliances, as well as construction materials, consumer goods, and chemical products.

Innovation hub in GBAO’s Darvoz district

The Vanj industrial park follows in the footsteps of a similar Industrial-Innovation Technological Park in GBAO’s Darvoz district, which was inaugurated by President Rahmon in August 2020.  This facility combines modern manufacturing and agriculture, housing six production units that generate over 26 types of domestic products.

Notable operations include honey processing, non-alcoholic beverage production under the Pamir Aqua brand, medical solution manufacturing, and fruit and vegetable extracts, such as sea buckthorn oil.

The park also includes two modern greenhouses — one for tomatoes and another for lemons and mandarins — with produce supplied to both local and international markets.

A key component of the Darvoz park is skills training.  The administrative building hosts South Korean-made equipment used to train auto mechanics, sixth-grade welders, and heavy truck drivers.

Future plans include launching solar panel production, positioning the site as a leading industrial-technological hub in the region.
