President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has appointed Sharaf Sheralizoda as the country’s new ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. The presidential decree was signed on June 30, 2025.

Sheralizoda, who currently serves as acting Tajikistan’s ambassador to Switzerland, will now concurrently represent the county in Spain.  He was appointed to the post in Switzerland in May 2023 and also serves as Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.

Extensive diplomatic and economic background

Born on April 29, 1981, Sheralizoda holds degrees from the State Institute of Taxation and Law (2002), the National University of Tajikistan (2010), and the University of the Philippines (2017).

He began his career in 2002 at the state-owned Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank), followed by a position in the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.  Later, he worked as a senior economist at the Dushanbe-1 station of Tajik Railways.

Sheralizoda has held various key positions, including roles in President’s Executive Office and the finance department of the Roghun Hydropower Plant.

In 2013, he was appointed Director of the State Project Implementation Unit for Public-Private Partnerships under the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management.

Between 2015 and 2017, he served as Deputy Executive Director at the Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines.  He then headed the Secretariat of the Presidential Consultative Council on Improving the Investment Climate (2018–2019) and later served as First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management until 2021.

From April 2021 to May 2023, Sheralizoda held the post of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Diplomatic succession

Sheralizoda replaces Jamshed Hamidov, who was relieved of his post of Ambassador to Spain in 2023 due to a career transition.

With this new appointment, Sheralizoda continues to play a key role in strengthening Tajikistan’s diplomatic ties in Europe.
