In early August, Tokhirjon Tolibzoda, the head of the Sughd Region Land Administration in Tajikistan, told reporters that two of his subordinates had committed crimes in the Shahristan and Devashtich districts. However, one of the accused claims that he was slandered.

Tolibzoda said that he was talking about the head of the Shahristan district land administration and one of the employees of the department in the Devashtich district. However, he did not specify exactly what crimes the two officials had committed.

Tolibzoda said that he was talking about the head of the Shahristan district land administration and one of the employees of the department in the Devashtich district.

However, he did not specify exactly what crimes the two officials had committed.

Shokirjon Karoboev is the head of the Shakhriston district Land Administration. He confirmed that he was accused of corruption, but did not provide additional explanations.

In a short telephone conversation with AsiaPlus, he only said: "This is a mistake, I was slandered." The official did not specify what exactly was the mistake, or who had slandered him.

Meanwhile, Zarif Atozoda, Chief of Staff of the Chairman of the Shakhristan region, said:

"According to our information, in relation to him (meaning Shokirjon Karoboev. A criminal case has indeed been initiated, but we also do not know what article it is. At the moment, we have not received any official information in writing. We have heard that such an incident has occurred. We invite him (Karoboev. Ed.) to the administration, but he does not come under the pretext that he is in the anti-corruption department".

At the same time, both Zarif Atozoda and Rahmon Mavlonkulzoda, the first deputy chairman of the Shakhristan region, confirmed that the head of the district land administration continues to perform his official duties.

The Prosecutor of Sughd region, Furkat Khojazoda, noted at a press conference in early August that 190 criminal cases had been initiated against employees of the region's land administrations in the first 6 months of this year, and 1,853 people had been brought to disciplinary, financial and administrative responsibility.

The Anti-Corruption Agency calls the land sector one of the most corrupt in Tajikistan.
