The Interior Ministry of Tajikistan, in cooperation with Russian authorities, has detained a suspect wanted for a violent knife attack on a woman in Kazan, Russia. The announcement was made by Irina Volk, official spokesperson for the Russian Interior Ministry.

The incident occurred on October 14 near a residential building on Vosstaniya Street in Kazan, where a 34-year-old woman was attacked by an unidentified man who inflicted multiple stab wounds.  The victim was hospitalized, and Russian investigators launched a criminal case.

In the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian police have already detained several suspected accomplices in the case, including two relatives of the victim and the head of security at a private company.  Two others were arrested for aiding in the planning of the assault.

The alleged attacker, a 30-year-old native of a neighboring country (the specific country has not been disclosed), reportedly fled to Tajikistan following the crime. He was located and arrested during a joint operation conducted by the interior ministries of Russia and Tajikistan. Authorities are currently preparing his extradition to Russia.

Growing cooperation between Tajik and Russian law enforcement

This case underscores the growing collaboration between Tajik and Russian law enforcement agencies. In the first nine months of 2025, Russian police detained around 400 individuals wanted by Tajikistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs — nearly double the 260 detentions recorded during the same period last year.

On September 22, the Interior Ministers of both countries — Ramazon Rahimzoda of Tajikistan and Vladimir Kolokoltsev of Russia — met in Dushanbe for a session of the Joint Board of the Interior Ministries. They reportedly discussed closer cooperation between investigative units and the exchange of operational information.

Minister Kolokoltsev praised the efficiency of newly established cooperation mechanisms, noting their effectiveness in maintaining public order and solving crimes. He also expressed gratitude to the Tajik side for contributing to shared criminal databases, particularly by providing photographs of fugitives, which has significantly improved joint investigative efforts.
