Investigation launched into the beating of IRP deputy leader

DUSHANBE, April 20, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajik law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the beating of Mahmadali Hayit, the deputy head of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP).

A special group has reportedly been set up to investigate the incident and the preliminary investigation is under way.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), several unidentified persons attacked Mahmadali Hayit on the evening of Friday outside his home in Dushanbe’s neighborhood # 91.  “Mahmadali Hayit, 56, sustained several various wounds and was hospitalized,” an official source at a MoI said.  

Representatives of the Islamic Revival Party say Mahmadali Hayit’s health condition is stable now.
