DUSHANBE, April 20, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan will take part in the eighth European Immunization Week that will take place from April 22-27, 2013.

According to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis under the Ministry of Health (MoH), a number of activities will be organized throughout the country as part of the European Immunization Week (EIW).

The European Immunization Week promotes the core message that the immunization of every child is vital to prevent diseases and protect life.  The slogan – “Prevent. Protect. Immunize.” – carries this message across the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region.  The goal is to increase vaccination coverage by raising awareness of the importance of immunization.

All 53 Member States of the WHO European Region are taking part in European Immunization Week from 22 to 27 April 2013.  National and local initiatives are being organized throughout the Region to raise awareness and increase vaccination uptake.  At the Regional level, WHO/Europe is launching several resource materials to assist health workers and other stakeholders in their work to “protect, prevent and immunize”.

Later in the year, WHO/Europe plans to hold a workshop for EIW focal points from all countries in the Region, the first such gathering since 2008. It will enable the participants to share best practices and lessons learnt since the initiative began in 2005, highlight their countries’ activities and achievements and give feedback on WHO/Europe’s work in coordinating the initiative and supporting Member States.
